Hey Omid,
A couple of years ago, I was in the middle of selling my house and needed a place to stay for a few months while I found a new one. A friend of mine had a house available on Airbnb, so I decided to stay there.
It seemed like a good idea at the time, but within the first week of moving in, my HRV and recovery completely tanked.
Why? One reason: sleep.

My sleep (or lack thereof) there was absolutely terrible.
The problem was that back yard was 50ft away from a I405, a major freeway. It was always noisy.
The main bedroom also had two giant skylights that flooded the room with light every morning bright and early. Anyone that knows me knows that I am not a morning person.
After using heart rate variability (HRV) for almost 20 years, I knew just how important sleep is. But I was still surprised to see my numbers completely tank within a few days even though I was still getting 8 hours or more per night.
It was the sleep quality that was killing me. Constant road noise and morning light kept me from getting into the truly deep parasympathetic states of sleep where recovery is maximized.
This is the main reason reason sleep is so important. Not just for your health, but making sure you get the most out of your workouts. Sleep is the most anabolic time there is.
It's when your body can direct energy into rebuilding muscle tissue, adding new mitochondria, reinforcing new motor patterns, and more.
Your workouts are the stimulus for these changes. If you don't get enough high-quality sleep, though, the truth is that your hard work will largely be wasted.
To help you make sure that doesn't happen, I've put together a video article to walk you through how to sleep your way to better fitness:

The good thing is that fixing your sleep isn't really that hard. It's like a lot of other areas of fitness - you just need to have the right strategies in place and be consistent.
If you feel like your sleep isn't what it could be, give my 3 strategies a shot and let me know what happens.

P.S. Look for a big announcement coming from me in the next few days. I've been hard at work on a new project and I'm finally ready to let the cat out of the bag.
